Laboratory Flasks

Flasks come in a variety of shapes and sizes and a specified volume measured in metric units such as milliliters (mL) or liters (L). We offer Erlenmeyer, Buchner, and Volumetric Flasks manufactured from the highest quality materials for use in the lab. Laboratory flasks have traditionally been made of glass, but they are also available in plastic-coated-glass varieties.

At the opening at top of round-bottom flasks and volumetric flasks, there are often outer tapered joints. Some flasks, especially volumetric flasks, come with a stopper or cap made of glass, plastic or Teflon®. Flasks which do not come with stoppers may be capped with a rubber bung or cork stopper. (Appropriate bung sizes are noted on each product page.)

Flasks are ideal for volumetrically measuring chemicals, samples, and solutions for chemical reactions or other processes such as mixing, heating, cooling, dissolving, precipitation, distillation, or analysis.

Laboratory Flasks

Choose from the following options to see flasks by category:

  • Flat Bottom Standard Taper Lab Flasks have a flat bottom suitable for use with stir bars.

  • Round Bottom Lab Flasks (Heavy Wall) have extra strength heavy walls and round bottom.

  • Low Profile Apollo Flasks (Heavy Wall) can sit upright on the bench and permit easy access with a spatula or policeman. The flask contour is excellent for controlled evaporation of foaming solvents during rotary evaporation.

  • Round Bottom Evaporating Flasks (Heavy Wall) are for use with rotary evaporators. Flasks have a HEAVY WALL for vacuum applications and are balanced to prevent run-out during rotation. Available in 6 Outer Joint finishes.

  • Plastic Coated Round Bottom Evaporating Flasks are similar to CG-1512, but have a plastic coating to prevent injury from broken glass and spillage of hazardous materials. Cannot be exposed to temperatures over 60°C.

  • Erlenmeyer Standard Flasks have white enamel graduations, an extra large marking space, and heavy, durable top tooling.

  • Erlenmeyer Wide Mouth Heavy Rim Flasks are especially recommended for use as a titration flask. For convenience, these flasks are graduated to show the approximate capacity and have an extra large marking spot.

  • Erlenmeyer Filtering Flasks (Heavy Wall) without tubulation are blown in special molds for maximum mechanical strength. Graduated to show approximate capacity. Marked “Filter Flask” to avoid confusion with other similarly sized Erlenmeyer flasks.

  • Erlenmeyer Filtering Flasks with Replaceable Tubulations are standard PYREX® heavy wall filtering flasks, into which a bent, poly tubulation in a grommet is seated. Should the flask be upset, the grommet acts as a shock absorber. All flasks have permanent white enamel graduations and marking spots. The tubulation is 12.5mm OD.

  • PYREX-PLUS® PVC Coated Erlenmeyer Filtering Flasks with Tubulation (Heavy Wall) features protective PVC coating to prevent glass from shattering. Autoclavable (121°C) and resistant to thermal shock. Graduated to show approximate capacity. 10mm tubulation OD on sizes up thru 1 L / 12.5mm tubulation OD on 2 L & 4 L sizes. The tubulation is not coated for easy connection to tubing. Not for use above direct flame, 121°C moist heat, or 110°C dry heat. Patented.

  • Volumetric Flasks (Standard Class A) are manufactured to conform to Federal Specifications NNN-F-289 for Type 1, Class “A” unserialized flasks and ASTM E-288 and are offered with or without a mixing bulb, which contains approximately one tenth of the flask capacity and aids in the mixing or dissolving of the flask contents.

  • Volumetric Flasks (Heavy Duty Class A) feature a wide mouth design to facilitate mixing, pipette access, sampling and filling. Unique Flat Bottom Interior permits the use of a standard stir bar. Large permanent white letters make the capacity clearly visible. Flasks are calibrated "To Contain" at Class A tolerances, per ASTM E288 specifications.

  • Red Low Actinic Volumetric Flasks (Heavy Duty Class A) are made of low actinic red stained glass for light sensitive solutions. Allowing less than 1% transmission below 400nm and 5% from 400-600nm. Wide mouth design facilitates mixing, pipette access, sampling and filling. Unique Flat Bottom Interior permits the use of a standard stir bar. Large permanent white letters make the capacity clearly visible. Flasks are calibrated "To Contain" at Class A tolerances, per ASTM E288 specifications.
