Chromotropic Acid Disodium Salt, ACS is used as a reagent in the determination of the systemic herbicide, 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. It is useful because of the red color when chromotropic acid in 75% sulfuric acid reacts with formaldehyde. As an ACS grade quality reagent, its chemical specifications are the de facto standards for chemicals used in many high-purity applications and typically designate the highest quality chemical available for laboratory use.
