Caps and Closures
How to Choose the Best Cap for Your Usage
Phenolic caps (Thermoset) offer a wide range of chemical compatibility and the best temperature range of plastic closures. They also provide the most consistent adherence to close dimensional tolerances. Ideal for pharmaceutical applications. Phenolic caps can generally handle -100°F to 426°F.
Metal caps offer the widest range of temperature tolerances and are resistant to damage. They provide good corrosion resistance to corrosion and prevent degradation of the sealed contents. Great for food applications, carbonated beverages, and specialized chemical applications. Not recommended for acidic or alkaline liquids.
Polypropylene caps are strong, flexible and cost effective. If the liner is not glued in (and is autoclavable), or if linerless, it can be autoclaved. Temperature range is -20°C to 130°C (approximately -4°F to 266°F). In colder environments (below -20°C) they will become brittle.
