Volunteer Day 2018: Ocean Beach Clean up Day
July 10,2018 –Plastic waste washing up on beaches or being left behind from beach-goers has become an increasing problem for coastal cities around the globe. It’s estimated that an average of one truckload of single-use plastic is dumped into our oceans every minute. According to the New Plastics Economy, an initiative started by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 95% of the material value of plastic packaging, approximately $80– 120 billion annually, is lost to the economy after a short first use. Single-use plastics are not only destroying our environment but are also detrimental to a sustainable economy.
CP Lab Safety and Emery Pharma teamed up to make a positive impact on the garbage left behind in Ocean Beach, San Francisco, CA. The volunteer day was in partnership with Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the National Parks Recreation Association, and our host was Park Ranger Marcus Combs. By the end of the volunteer activity, the combined effort from both companies resulted in over 10 bags of garbage collected from the beach.
