Butane-1,4-diol is a butanediol that holds a colorless, water-miscible, liquid mainly used for the production of other organic chemicals. It serves as a neurotoxin, a prodrug, and a protic solvent. 

1,4-Butanediol or tetramethylene glycol is a colorless viscous liquid. The majority of this material is used in the production of tetrahydrofuran for conversion into Spandex. However, there are illicit uses of the material and the CA DOJ has put this material on the 21-day precursor hold list for California customers. Ungraded products supplied by Spectrum are indicative of a grade suitable for general industrial use or research purposes and typically are not suitable for human consumption or therapeutic use.
