Eosin Y is produced from fluorescein by bromination, commonly used as the red dye in red inks. In organic synthesis, it is used as a photosensitizer. Studies show that Eosin Y is a potential new color test which can be used to detect illicit drugs that have not been extensively studied. This revealed that it was able to detect fentanyl in forensic case samples that were connected to heroin and various cutting agents. 

Eosin Y TS, (U.S.P. Test Solution) is a ready-for-use solution for the purpose of conducting USP, National Formulary and assay tests and is prepared according to the specifications of the USP Pharmacopeial Convention.
